One of the perks of having a lot of work in California is I get to see a lot of really cool places. This was my first time seeing giant sand dunes, and it was honestly magical. Very hard to walk in, but magical all the same. I'm just glad I could do ONE sand dune engagement session while I was living in California for the month of October, and it definitely did not disappoint. Sand dunes are something I've wanted to photograph in for a LONG time. For some reason I always thought it would be easier to walk on than the beach (I have never been more wrong) because of movies, but the photos sure were worth it.
I will say though that if you're planning on going out to any dunes (or the desert) period make sure you drink water throughout the way before even getting there. I made the huge mistake of not being hydrated enough and by the end of the shoot I was completely spent. It also didn't help that it was in the high 90's that day coupled with wearing a mask the entire shoot. It's not that it's hard to breathe with the masks on but the extra cloth does make your face sweat if you're struggling up and down sand dunes in 90 degree weather.
See another session I photographed while in California last October.
