There is a reason photographers and couples alike love Golden Hour Wedding Photos. The light becomes softer, the colors become richer, and everything seems to slow down for a few moments before the sun disappears below the horizon. This anniversary session at The Parklands in Louisville, Kentucky, was the perfect reminder of why that time of day is so special.

Anniversary sessions are some of my favorite sessions to photograph. Weddings are often fast-paced and filled with excitement. However, anniversary sessions give couples the opportunity to revisit that connection without the pressure of a timeline. Instead of focusing on schedules and events, we can simply focus on the two people in front of the camera.

The Parklands provided the perfect backdrop for the evening. Stretching across thousands of acres in eastern Louisville, The Parklands is one of the largest urban park projects in the United States. The park system connects several distinct parks with miles of trails, open meadows, forests, and scenic overlooks. Because of its size and variety, it offers countless locations for portraits throughout the year.

As the evening progressed, the sunlight filtered through the trees and settled across the fields in that unmistakable golden glow. The warm tones created depth and texture while still allowing the focus to remain on the couple. Rather than relying on elaborate poses, we spent most of the session walking, talking, and letting moments unfold naturally. Those in-between moments often become the photographs people treasure most.

One of the things I love most about anniversary sessions is how personal they feel. They are less about documenting a milestone and more about celebrating the life a couple has built together since their wedding day. There is a comfort that comes with familiarity, and that comfort always photographs beautifully.
